WOODWORK

The wood working area of the Shed comprises many large machines e.g. Tablesaw, Dropsaw, Drill Press, Lathes, Band Saws complemented by a variety of smaller power tools, e.g. Drills, Routers, Jigsaws, Circular Saws. We have a full range of hand tools enabling a worker to make almost anything.

We undertake many community projects, e.g. the current Bundanoon Railway sign made for the 150th anniversary and lockers for the renovated Preschool. Members can and do have their own projects that they are welcome to undertake.

METALWORK

The Shed has an established metal working area and has relevant equipment such as a plasma cutter, oxy welding equipment, metal band saw cutters all of which members may be trained to use. The Shed has made items for the Bundanoon community. Members may use the equipment for personal projects

POETRY GROUP

This group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 2.30pm (except January).

This is one of the Shed’s smaller groups, but new members are always welcome. It meets monthly to read and discuss poetry of all sorts, ages and places. That means it goes from bits of Chaucer to Les Murray and other moderns to poetry relevant to special events like Anzac Day and Christmas - and there are occasional exercises or original poetry written by members.

The group usually contributes a poem at Shed Monthly Meetings, often Australian bush poetry, which is much appreciated.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

This group meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 1.30pm, unless otherwise arranged.

The primary subject interests of the S.A.T. Group are Electronics across many fields such as Radio and Astronomy & Radio Astronomy, General Science, Model Trains, to name just a few. It is not necessary to have any Engineering background to join the group, so all are welcome to the meetings. We try and keep discussions and projects to a basic hobby level.

We hold discussions, talks and occasional practical workshops on topics relating to science/historical electronic equipment/radio/astronomy, computing, model trains and associated technology subjects.

We have a diverse technical and scientific knowledge amongst the group including, amateur radio operators, model train enthusiasts so the field is virtually limitless.

Come along, test the waters and see if it “floats your boat”

AUTOMOTIVE

This group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 9.00am. We don’t just chat about Automobiles, we include anything with wheels, from Mopeds to Motor Homes, Caravans to Vintage Cars, Planes and Trains.

We enjoy looking at Members’ and Guests’ vehicles, look at Road and Safety practice.

A morning cuppa about 10, then finish about 11.00. All are always welcome.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The photography group meets on the second Thursday of the month at 5.30pm.

The Photography group was formed about 3 years ago by a small number of members who enjoy taking photos. The group has grown from the original handful of people to approximately 30 strong.

We offer a friendly atmosphere where you can share your photographs in a relaxed and educational environment. Help is provided to members who are transitioning from “film” to digital and to those who are new to photography and need help in understanding their new digital cameras.

In 2016 we introduced our monthly photographic competitions with subjects that are both varied and challenging. The winner of each month’s competition is automatically entered into the Group’s Annual Photographic Award.

On the fourth Thursday of the month we gather at a local scenic point of interest to practise our skills, share our knowledge and friendship.

VEGETABLE GROWING

The “Veggiemen” meet at 9.00am on the second Monday of the month at a different member’s garden to share their expertise and learn from each other..

Gardening, and especially growing vegetables, is a wonderful hobby. With lots of ‘home’ hobbies you end up with piles of finished items that need displaying, or maybe destined for that bottomless drawer. With vegetable growing you literally have nothing to show for the effort, because you have eaten it all! But what pleasure you have had, and you get to do it all over again next season, but with more knowledge and confidence for a better crop.

The climate in the Southern Highlands can be a challenge, so it is great to know what your neighbours are successfully growing. Our group is very informal, a look, a chat and a cuppa. You are very welcome to join us.

COOKING.jpg

COOKING CLASSES

Every three months or so, another cooking class for members is held at the local RSL sub-branch in Erith Street, Bundanoon which has an outstanding kitchen. The format is based on simple, interesting menus that will be the participant’s lunch. These “lunches” are always a lot of fun with the spinoff being you will learn a little about the culinary art and about each other!.

OUTINGS

The Shed organises trips, usually by bus or members’ cars, dependent on the numbers to various places of interest. In recent times we have visited Historical Aircraft Restoration Society at Albion Park and the Loco Restoration Society and old Waterworks at Goulburn. Click here to read more details of our recent outings.

CYCLING

This new group has been set up to provide an opportunity for members to get involved in some moderate exercise on their bikes every couple of weeks, enjoy a coffee break and get to know each other better in the process. The usual circuit is at Bowral utilising the network of safe cycle paths particularly through East Bowral as there are no safe routes available around Bundanoon. The route is gently graded and picturesque skirting the lakes of the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens, a few kilometres along Mittagong Creek and Cherry Tree Walk and into Bowral with its array of coffee spots before returning. The pace is relaxed and allows conversation on the way and the total distance is about 10km with some modest extensions available.

Most of us have conventional bikes, some rather aged, with the odd disc brake for those who have moved with the times and there is even an e-bike. Loan bikes are available for those who want to give it a go! Dress rules are very lax, a helmet and no thongs. Lycra is worn only by the small minority impervious to ridicule. We ride with a first aid kit available and the activity is covered by our Shed insurance.

As some of our riders are sensitive to strong winds, rain, cold or heat, attendance is always optional. We meet the Shed at 08.30am on every second Friday

SHED SHOP

Since its inception, our Shed has been the frequent recipient of donated items often derived from the depths of garages, garden shed or attics or as a result of downsizing or moving. While the Shed is always appreciative of the thoughtfulness of our community, often the goods are surplus to our requirements or sometime so old and venerable that even our older and venerable members may not know what they are. Sometimes we have been overwhelmed by the generous donation of excellent equipment which may then replace equivalent items in our workshops.

Our monthly Shed Shop is basically a regular garage sale which has provided an opportunity to recycle many “pre-loved” items to other garages, garden sheds or attics, and also allows us to raise funds for development of our facilities and programs as well as being able to sell items made at the Shed. It allows us to showcase our Shed and has been a useful outreach to the community with a number of members having joined as a result of a visit.

We publicise our Shed Shop via Facebook and local radio. Goods range from CDs, books, garden art and tools, bric-a-brac, hand and power tools and many unclassifiable mystery items. First Saturday of the month from 0900 - 1300.
